GI Joe Action Figures Are Collector Items Today.
It’s popularity grew into a cartoon giant then in 1964 Hasbro Toy produced GI Joe Action Figures is a line of military-themed “action figures” which became very popular among boys. GI Joe came on the scene over 40 years ago as an action figure.
Originally 12″ tall, the first four action figures represented the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines.
In 1982, the GI Joe Action Figures were redesigned to 3 3/4th scale action figures under a new brand entitled “GI Joe: A Real American Hero.” These scaled down GI Joe Action Figures found a renewed popularity in conjunction with the very popular animated cartoon series where the GI Joe Team battled the evil Cobra Organization.
In 1985, the GI Joe: A Real American Hero was aired with 95 episode long animated series produced by Marvel Productions and Sunbow Productions. The cartoon began with a two five-part mini-series, then became a regular series that ran in syndication from 1985 and 1987.
In 1987, the GI Joe: The Movie, was on the big screen at the height of the GI Joe Action Figures craze in the 80′s. In the film, we find out that the Cobra Organization was created by Golobulus. The organization was made up of an ancient race of part human/part snake/part insectoid people who ruled the Earth before humanity. We learn in the movie that their culture was all but wiped out by the ice age and they fled to the Himalayas as humanity evolved and developed its own technology. The evil Golobulus sent a Cobra-La citizen, Cobra Commander, to go out and destroy humanity. When Cobra Commander fails, he is de-evolved into a snake in favor of Serpentor. It is also revealed that Golobulus implanted a psychic motivator into Dr. Mindbender’s brain to inspire him to create Serpentor. Golobulus wants the human race’s Broadcast Energy Transmitter or BET so that he can accelerate the maturity of his space spores, which will shower the human race upon ripening and turn them into mindless animals, while all those in Cobra-La are protected by the Ice Dome. Only G.I. Joe stands in their way.
GI Joe: The Rise of the Cobra Movie
In 2009 with the release of the movie GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra the GI Joe Action Figures saw renewed life into the popular characters Duke, Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, and Cobra Commander. The GI Joe fans are enjoying a new chapter in the characters popularity and new battles.
Costume designers have done a great job this year preparing a number a realistic GI Joe Costumes that feature Duke, Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, and Cobra Commander. Costumes that feature the hottest summer movie blockbusters or the favorite television shows at the time are nothing new of course, and this year will be no different. Snake Eyes is not only one of the coolest Halloween costume choices, he might also be one of the coolest GI Joe characters ever.
Stunning and phenomenal. I have seen other superhero costumes for Halloween. This is the first time I am going to get my grand kids a GI Joe costume and coincidentally the movie released recently and kids are still not yet back from the hangover of watching it. This Halloweens gonna be great fun. Thanks!
I remember GI Joe figurines when I was a kid. Wish I still had them.
